The University of Delaware (pronunciation: /ˌjuːnɪˈvɜːrsɪti ɒv ˈdɛləwɛər/) is a public research university located in Newark, Delaware, United States. It is often abbreviated as UD or UDEL and is the largest university in Delaware.
Etymology
The University of Delaware was originally chartered by an Act of the Delaware General Assembly as "The Newark College" in 1833. It was renamed "Delaware College" in 1843 and became the "University of Delaware" in 1921.
