Satire

Satire (pronunciation: /ˈsaˌtī(ə)r/) is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into improvement.

Etymology

The term satire comes from the Latin word satura, which means "dish of mixed fruits". The concept of satire has been around since the ancient Greek period, but the term itself was first used in the Roman era.
