Cancerous Meningitis - (pronounced) (KAR-sih-NOH-muh-tus MEH-nin-JY-tis) serious condition in which cancer cells spread from the original (primary) tumor to the meninges (the thin layers of tissue that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord). This can cause the meninges to become inflamed, causing CSF and pressure to build up in the brain. Carcinomatous meningitis can occur with many types of cancer, but it most commonly occurs in people with breast cancer, lung cancer, or melanoma. Also called leptomeningeal carcinoma, leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, leptomeningeal metastases, meningeal carcinomatosis, meningeal metastases and neoplastic meningitis
