Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System - (pronounced) (Brest IH-muh-jing reh-port-ing. . . SIS-tem) reporting system used to describe the results of a mammography, breast ultrasound, or breast MRI in a standardized way. The Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System classifies test results into one of seven categories, ranging from normal or benign (no cancer) to highly suspect or malignant (cancer). Each category includes follow-up recommendations to help manage an individual's care. For mammograms, the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System includes four additional categories that describe the degree of apparent breast density, ranging from little or no dense tissue to very dense tissue.
