This region includes portions of the U.S. states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. Etymology

The term "Delaware Valley" is derived from the Delaware River, which was named in honor of Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, an English nobleman and Virginia's first colonial governor.
