microarray - (pronounced) (MY-kroh-uh-RAY) laboratory tool used to analyze large numbers of genes or proteins simultaneously. In a microarray, biological molecules such as DNA, RNA or protein are placed in a pattern on a surface such as a glass slide. Additional substances are added to these slides in order to recognize certain patterns of molecules. Microarrays are used to diagnose and develop treatments for diseases such as cancer
