neuropathy - (pronounced) (noor-AH-phew-you) A nerve problem that causes pain, numbness, tingling, swelling, or muscle weakness in different parts of the body. It usually starts in the hands or feet and gets worse over time. Neuropathy can be caused by cancer or cancer treatments such as chemotherapy. It can also be caused by physical injury, infection, toxic substances, or medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney failure, or malnutrition. Also called peripheral neuropathy
